The space is industrial with modern elements that feature an open bar – smack dab in the middle of the dining room (there is nothing like it in Chicago), an open kitchen and offers seating for approximately 75 people. The room includes an original vintage skylight (1918), long-cement bar, handcrafted maple benches, distressed cedar wood tattered with ebony stains, street art by local Chicago graffiti artists, and custom antique-style lighting.  The open bar and kitchen design allows for closer interaction with the guests that adds to a heightened dining experience.

Nestled between the vibrant neighborhoods of Wicker Park & Ukrainian Village on Division Street, Takito Kitchen was created by restaurateur Mario Ponce (Bar Takito, West Loop). The Chef driven menu, by Executive Sous Chef Gustavo Urbina (formerly of Tom Colicchio’s Beach Craft, Miami), features seasonal shared plates, ceviches, and artisanal tacos.  The focus is on fresh ingredients with complex, yet approachable flavors, all tucked inside a handmade tortilla.  Additionally, the menu has remained Gluten Free since inception.

Hard at Work in the Kitchen

Rest assured that an authentic & knowledge service staff are ready to complement your journey into one of the most unique and approachable restaurant experience you’ve had in some time.

Mario Ponce, founder, can be found frequently roaming the dining room.  The experience is further entrusted with Silvia Hurtado (General Manager), Nicklaus Ronsen (Beverage Manager), Executive Sous Chef Gustavo Urbina, and Executive Chef Alberto Mendez (Bar Takito, West Loop)

We only know craft-margaritas & cocktails – this means that every single margarita/cocktail is prepared with the freshest ingredients, premier spirits, and a touch of love.  We offer freshly squeezed juices (yes, we juice every single morning, and toss what we don’t sell at night; then start over), and we make our own salt concoctions, that add to the uniqueness that has made Takito Kitchen a popular hot spot for almost 4 years.  Agua frescas (non-alcoholic drinks), Latin beers & wines are also offered.

Original, flavorful, approachable, gluten free and highly affordable is a quick take.  The entire menu is designed for sharing.  Chef Urbina works with local farms to secure his proteins & produce, then works with world class spice houses to accompany his unique cooking approach.  Whereas, tacos are main attraction, the accompanied shared plates are perfect complements.
